Who we are…

The Union County Humane Society (UCHS) is a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501c3 organization, established and chartered by the State of TN in 1996. The UCHS is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals through sheltering, education, sterilization, legislation, and humane care.

Grand opening of the new facility was July 19, 2008 and operates with only a small paid staff on 20 acres of land. Volunteers are an integral part of the operation of the shelter helping with day to day chores to care for the animals, work at the reception desk and answer the phone, and take care of regular maintenance of the facility.

UCHS receives minimal funding from Union County and its community cities and is dependant on donations from caring friends like you to be able to continue to take in and care for the many animals which are brought to us.

We have also initiated or played a major role in:

  • Developing plans for and construction of the first Animal Shelter in Union County.
  • Bringing the first veterinary practice to Union County.
  • Organizing a program with Remote Area Medical to provide FREE spay/neuter clinics for low income households.
  • Providing low cost spay/neuter services for low income households (begun in January 2009).
  • Working toward cooperative efforts with county officials on development of a progressive animal control program.
  • Providing educational information for area schools on humane treatment and care of animals, importance of spay/neuter, and the link between violence towards animals and violence towards humans.

Shelter hours: 10 am - 4 pm, Monday - Saturday.

The Problem…

Pet Overpopulation

On any given day, 10,000 human beings are being born in the United States, but on the same day 70,000 puppies and kittens are also born. It is no surprise that too few homes are waiting for too many dogs and cats.

The Solution…
